Analyzing Performance Indicators for Students During COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic forced learning online and diminished non-academic support such as social, physical, behavioral and mental health services. Meeting non-academic needs, including meal provision, physical healthcare, mental healthcare, safe and stable housing of students helps remove learning barriers. In addition to evaluating academic performance, the learning gap during COVID-19 should be evaluated with the context of non-academic needs of students.

Initial research showed successful elementary school education system is not only formed by effective knowledge delivery, but also, everything related to improving the academic performance of students. By creating an ecosystem map, we were able to compare learning environments before and after COVID-19.

This systemic visualization identifies the research gap between non-academic needs of students and the learning gap during COVID-19. Below are literature review and research terms notated by Google Scholar results (number of articles). Based on current available knowledge, only 35 articles mention non-academic needs ot students, and results are turther reduced when specitying the term Non-academic needs of students should be taken into consideration to holistically evaluate the learning gap during COVID-19.

Based on the available knowledge, more research is needed on non-academic needs of students during the pandemic, and how those needs may impact the learning gap and test scores of students.
